Sensex, Nifty off day's high; Media, FMCG stocks down

Benchmark indices are currently trading off its day's high with the Nifty hovering around the 10,800-mark. Today's gains led by auto, capital goods and energy shares.

Varroc Engineering debuted on stock exchanges with a 5% gain to its issue price of Rs967. The IPO was worth Rs1,955cr at the higher end of its price band of Rs965-967.

At 12:43 PM, BSE Sensex was trading at 35,708 up 133 points, while NSE Nifty was trading at 10,786 up 37 points.

BSE Mid-cap Index was trading up 0.75%, while BSE Small-cap Index was trading higher by 0.40%.

Welspun Enterprises stock gained 2% as company bagged a Rs2,000cr contract from the NHAI.

Adhunik Metaliks Ltd. stock rallied 10% on the BSE in morning trade after the committee of creditors (CoC) of the company approved the bid by Liberty House UK for the maker of alloy and special construction steel.

Tata Motors (+3.8%), Hero MotoCorp (+3.4%), HPCL (+3.3%), Bajaj Auto (+2.8%) and Hindalco (+2.3%) were the top gainers on NSE.

Zee (-1.4%), Tech Mahindra (-1%), Wipro (-0.83%), Infratel (-0.65%) and GAIL (-0.59%) were the top losers on NSE.

The India VIX was down 1.45% at 12.3925.

Out of 2,064 stocks traded on the NSE, 544 declined, 1,091 advanced and 429 remained unchanged on Friday.

A total of seven stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade, while 125 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
