As per a TRAI report, the number of telephone subscribers in India has increased from 1.17mn at the end of July 2018 to 1.18mn at the end of August 2018, posting a monthly growth rate of 0.83%.
Further, the monthly growth rates of urban and rural subscription were 1.22% and 0.34%, respectively, during the month of August 2018. Overall, the share of urban and rural subscribers in the last month stood at 56.08% and 43.92%, respectively.
With respect to the subscriber pie, Bharti Airtel commands a majority of 29.64% market share, followed by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio with 20.50%.
Moreover, before their business amalgamation, Vodafone India had a market share of 19.24% and Aditya Birla group's Idea Cellular had 18.61% share of the total subscriber base.
