Equity benchmark indices BSE and NSE were trading in the red in noon trade on Thursday. The BSE Sensex was trading 59 points down at 34,383-levels, while the Nifty slipped 17 points to trade at 10,369-levels. The indices had opened on a positive note.
Heavy selling in Infosys, ITC, TCS, HDFC Bank, and Reliance Industries contributed to the fall on the S&P BSE Sensex. Conversely, Yes Bank, L&T, Indiabulls Housing Finance, IndusInd Bank, and IOC gained the most on the index.
Further, all sectoral indices on the Nifty were trading on a mixed note with the Nifty IT index losing ~2% and Nifty Realty gaining ~2%. Moreover, 44 securities were trading at their 52-week-lows, while only seven securities were trading at their 52-week-highs.
However, the market breadth on the NSE was positive with 1,111 shares advancing, 548 shares declining, and 399 shares remaining unchanged.
Meanwhile, the rupee was trading at 73.82 against the American greenback at the same time. The domestic currency opened 8 paisa higher at 73.87 against the US dollar on Thursday vs. its previous close of 73.95.
