Equity benchmark indices opened positive on Tuesday, tracking global cues and firm rupee. The Sensex gained 199 points higher at 35,149, while the Nifty 50 moved past the psychological 10,550 mark, up by 58 points.
Shares of State Bank of India are trading higher, while Cipla dropped 4% after the company posted weak results for the quarter.
The most actively traded stocks are SBI, Cipla, Tata Motors, Reliance Industries and PC Jeweller.
Meanwhile, Vedanta, Sun Pharma, SBI, Yes Bank and HDFC were the top gainers on the Nifty, while Bajaj Finserv, UltraTech, Infosys L&T and Asian Paints were under pressure.
Of the 2,022 stocks traded on the NSE, 857 advanced, 879 declined, and 286 remained unchanged.
A total of seven stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade, while 10 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE on Friday.
The BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices rose 0.38% and 0.58%, respectively.
Volatility index India VIX was down 6.04% to 18.30.
