Sensex rallies over 260 points ahead of Nov series expiry

Equity benchmark indices extended their rally for the fourth consecutive session, with the Nifty opening above the 10,800 mark ahead of November expiry. The Sensex surged over 293 points to 36,000 led by metal, pharma, capital goods, and power stocks.

The Indian rupee opened higher by 51 paise at 70.11/$ vs. its previous close 70.62/$.

Shares of Indoco Remedies gained 2% after it has commissioned a new state-of-the-art API manufacturing facility at Patalganga.

Vedanta, Hindalco, Reliance Industries, Power Grid, and Zee were the top Nifty gainers, while Yes Bank, ONGC, Coal India, Infratel, and HCL Tech were among the top losers.

The BSE Midcap index is trading 0.36% up, while the BSE Smallcap higher by 0.34%.

Volatility index India VIX is down 3.89% to 17.26.

The most active stocks were Yes Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and Reliance Industries.

Asian stock markets gained on Thursday ahead of a crucial meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, which many are hoping would help to ease trade tensions. The chairman of the US Federal Reserve suggested it may be nearing an end to its three-year rate tightening cycle, boosting interest in riskier assets.
