Equity benchmark indices sharply pared losses in the afternoon trade, with the Nifty trading below 12,000 level. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 90 points at 40,564 and the Nifty was down 34 points at 11,978.
The market breadth was negative, with 767 shares rising and 949 shares falling and 426 shares were unchanged on the NSE.
India VIX rose 3.68% to 15.76.
The BSE SmallCap index is trading slightly higher at 13,551 levels in the afternoon session. Raymond, NCC, Sterlite Technologies and Chambal Fertilizer were the top contributors to the index.
Shares of Raymond Limited soared over 18% in the afternoon session after the company announced the demerger of its core Lifestyle Business into a separate entity that will be listed through mirror shareholding structure.
Raymond stock climbed 20% and is among the top index gainers, followed by Apex, Uniply, NCC and Bombay Dyeing, which are also up in today’s trade.
Adani Enterprises, Adani Transmission, Agro Phos India, Amrutanjan Health Care, Bajaj Holdings, Brigade Enterprises, ICICI Bank, Indraprastha Gas, JSW Energy, Jubilant Foodworks and Polycab India hit a 52-week high on the NSE.
