Nifty above 11,950-mark; Airtel, SBI stocks jump

Equity benchmark indices continue to trade higher in the afternoon session, with the Sensex gaining 272 points and the Nifty up 74 points at 11,946.

The market breadth was narrow on the NSE, 881 shares rose, 894 shares fell and 366 shares were unchanged.

Infratel, Airtel, SBI and are Cipla among the top gainers, while IOC, UPL and ITC stocks fell in today’s trade.

The pharma index gained 2% led by Glenmark, Divis Lab, Aurobindo Pharma and Cipla.

The Metal index is also trading marginally higher in the Nifty index. Jindal Steel rose 3%, followed by Tata Steel, NMDC and Hindalco, which were up over 1% each.

Shares of GVK Power slipped 5% after the company posted a net loss of Rs159.4cr in Q2FY20 vs. a loss of Rs109.8cr in the same quarter last year.

GRP, Lakshmi Machine Works, Shemaroo Entertainment, Sterling and Wilson Solar, Bharat Road Network, Entertainment Network, Everest, Future Retail, Parag Milk Foods and Shakti Pumps stocks that touched their 52-week lows on the NSE.

Elsewhere, European market opened lower while Asia markets closed higher on Friday, as investors digested recent developments on US-China trade.
