Nifty trades below 10,800-mark; Yes Bank, Tata Steel among top losers

Equity benchmark indices extended decline on Thursday’s trade, with the Sensex down 272 points at 36,292 while the Nifty was at 10,761, down 79 points. Bharti Airtel, Britannia and Tata Motors among top gainers, while Yes Bank, Zee and Tata Steel among top losers.

The BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap indices were trading lower by 0.58% and 0.70%, respectively.

A selloff across sectors led by banking, auto, information technology and metal sharers, dragged the markets lower.

The Nifty Media index slumped 2% at 1,827.35 levels. Eros Media slumped 4%, Dish TV, Den, Zee and Hathway also fell 3% each.

From the IT space, the top losers were HCL Tech, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Infosys and Tata Elxsi.

The Indian rupee has recovered from the lows but trading marginally lower at 71.27 per dollar.

Shares of Lupin declined after the company received a warning letter from the USFDA for its Mandideep (Unit- 1) facility.

The most active stocks were Yes Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC, Maruti Suzuki and IndusInd Bank.

Among the Nifty50 names, 6 stocks advanced while 44 declined.
